When a business owner says she wants growth, she usually doesn’t mean “more chaos at a higher volume.”

She means fewer fires. Clearer priorities. Better decisions. And, ideally, a business that doesn’t fall apart if she takes a real vacation.

Good Apple exists to help owners build the cadence and structure that makes running their business enjoyable.

As we relaunch our website, business model, and expanded team, I want to share our journey to establishing our core ways of working.

A Bit of a Preamble

Rochelle and I spent the first 18 months of our partnership trying to find an approach that made Good Apple services accessible to small business owners without sacrificing quality or ethics.

We explored a lot of existing systems and thinking, but didn’t find an process or approach we could adopt wholesale. We liked pieces and parts of some, but found proprietary approaches (like EOS, for example) were manufacturing complexity and selling it as a feature, which actually disempowers business owners.

These popular systems can and do deliver value, but we see a big opportunity to offer an alternative that creates more ease and clarity while minimizing collateral damage. We believe the principles of running a business well aren’t complicated, even though they may not always be easy.

That’s how we landed on smart business, made simple as our governing principle.

What’s in a Framework?

We define a framework as a repeatable way of working: the principles, structure, and rhythm that turn messy reality into clear decisions and finished work.

In small business, team members wear multiple hats, capacity is constrained, and “we’ll get to it later” can quietly allow a small risk to snowball into a crisis. We use simple tools and processes to help owners, operators, and their teams find consistency and sustain progress over time, across the entire business.

Good Apple’s Smart Business Framework is a modular operating system tailored to small businesses. It’s how our core governing principle, “smart business, made simple,” translates into a structural way of working.

    We guide teams through prioritization to help choose what matters most through the lenses of risk, stability, and growth, while acknowledging and planning around constraints.

  5. Delivery Standards & Communication

    Clear ownership, disciplined project management, and regular check-ins build transparency and teamwork. Priorities reliably get finished and course-correction is organic.

Activating the Framework: Domain-Based Delivery

The Smart Business Framework creates the structure and rhythm for accountability and change. Domain-based delivery is how progress actually happens.

Each domain comes with its own expertise, tools, and ways of working, and clients can engage that support through retainers or focused projects, depending on what the business needs at a given stage.

  1. Full-Service Retainers

    Good Apple is built to function as a fractional C-suite for small businesses. Instead of relying on a single consultant—or expecting the owner to act as the entire executive team—clients get coordinated, ongoing access to experienced domain leaders who provide executive-level guidance across the whole business.

    Our retainers are intentionally tiered. As engagement deepens, our role shifts from guidance and oversight to active management and delivery inside the business.

  2. Focused, Project-Based Work

For businesses that need targeted support, we also offer domain-specific projects. These engagements are designed to move a specific initiative from decision to delivery—building systems, improving processes, or addressing a clearly defined need within a single domain.

Whether through a retainer or a project, our goal is the same: reduce owner dependence, increase clarity and follow-through, and help the business run with more ease and less friction over time.
